Humphrey’s in downtown Huntsville closed, website says for remodeling

Normally, they’d be open here on a Thursday. Customers would be dining on the New Orleans style patio out back, enjoying the pleasant fall weather along with their food and drinks.

But today, Humphrey’s Bar & Grill, a downtown Huntsville fixture for more than 20 years, is closed.

According to Humphrey’s website, the business is “closed for remodeling.”

The site also indicates, “Something is coming… We will keep you updated” See you soon!”

AL.com has reached out to Humphrey’s ownership for more information on the business’ status.

Located at 103 Washington St., Humphrey’s has been a hub for local music, nightlife and bar-food, well before the downtown renaissance of the last 10 years began.

Humphrey’s first opened around 2002 by HudsonAlpha biotech entrepreneur Jim Hudson. Ownership changed over the decades.

Most recently, rarlier this year a group comprised of Bill Chapman, the commercial real estate broker who’s rebooting iconic Huntsville music bar Tip Top Café, David Milly, known for his pyrotechnical and lighting companies, and Tim Giraldin, whose background is in housing, bought out previous co-owner Chris McDonald, a chef who’d worked at New York’s famed Le Bernardin before coming to Huntsville.

Andy Howery, McDonald’s former business partner, remained in place as a co-owner. The purchase involved both Humphrey’s and The Bottle, Humphrey’s next-door fine-dining sister-restaurant.
